Kailyn

Receptionist

Kailyn (Kay) has always been an animal lover and a north west girl. Her dreams of becoming a veterinarian were apparent in her care of companion animals and livestock from a young age. Animals she has cared for range from rodents to African monitor lizards! Much of her upbringing spanned the beauty of Idaho but her father’s career required the family to move often. When college time came around, Kay chose MSU for the pre-veterinary program and Montana’s wilderness. In the process of earning her Bachelor’s of Animal Science with a focus in pre-med and pre-vet studies, Kay was marked as a competitive candidate for acceptance into veterinary school. At this same time, she was faced with the diagnosis of a genetic degenerative disability. While this has tabled the dreams of earning a DVM, it has not hampered her passion for animals and medical science. After over 10yrs in veterinary medicine, she spent time as an optometric technician specializing in cases of traumatic brain injury and vision therapy. She came to SVH in 2021 with a variety of animal expertise including extensive animal training. She earned multiple certifications in animal care and training through ROP Orange County in 2013. In 2017 she traveled across the country training service dogs for disabled children. In 2021 and beyond she continues to expand her education, earning the AAFP Cat friendly certification and the Virbac C.E.T. Dental Ambassador certification. She has special interests in dental health, preventing heart disease in dogs and fostering the human-animal bond through positive reinforcement training. When not working, she enjoys time with her fiancé Ed, her Pomeranian and lucky black cat.
